thank you! i hope the beginning of Spring brings hope and happiness to you too! 💖
Ah yes, rainy Washington weather. It does say rain that day (at least where I am) but hopefully there will be a break in the rain (or I’ll just have to get a little wet) I’m planning to be replacing bedding, scrubbing roosts, washing windows, general deep cleaning. Feel free to do whatever you want, or just spend a little extra time with your flock!
i think this is a great idea! our coop doesnt get very dirty that often because the chickens only need to go in at night (food and nesting boxes are in a different area), so i dont think we will need to, but i will try to spend more time with my flock! 😁

Oh right, today is the day I ended up doing it. The weather was pretty nice, so I was like, “why not?” And anyway,

Is you’re spring cleaning just changing the bedding?

This is my spring cleaning plan.:
First I clean out the small coop, the nest boxes and poop boards and use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of all residues. Wash the dirty roosts.

Rake the sand/lime on the floor and the bath tub, shovel out the dirty parts (near waterer and feed bowl’s) . Add a few buckets of new sand/lime. Add some new sand with with a few spoons diatomaceous earth (DE) in the bath tub 🛀.

After that I make a ‘paint’ from DE and water to add a new DE layer in the nest boxes, the small coop, the roosts, the joints and the roost area. I refill the nest boxes with a cardboard bottom of a wine box 📦 and fill this with a layer of sand with DE, a little tobacco and lavender, wood shavings and put a layer of hay on top.

This weekend I want to prepare the nest box/mini coop for a broody-to-be too. About the same refill but with 4 fake eggs on top of the hay. I do hope there will be a volunteer for natural breeding witin a week or two. 🐥🐥🐥🐥

Under the roosts they get a new layer of cardboard from another wine box 📦 and on top I add a layer of whatever is available from the garden (probably mosses / composted leaves)

Wow, thats a lot to do. Yeah, mostly I just change out the bedding, (that takes the most time for me, I only use my hands... maybe I should use tools to make it go faster) but I also scrape off the roosts, dust, clean the windows, and deep clean the feed and waterer.
We have an egg eater, (found a smashed egg in the nesting box) so I need to pick up some more ceramic eggs... any tips for egg eaters?

I feel really bad that I didn’t clean my coop on the first day of spring. The reason was that it was pouring rain. And I was out of shavings. So please forgive me! I’d still like to see your pics if anyone did it!
dont worry! it would be very hard to clean it when its raining, and when you dont have shavings :D
