A sure sign of spring: Golly, one of my American Buff geese, laid her first egg of the year!

I wasn't surprised to find one in their shelter this morning when I went out to feed. She spent much of yesterday assembling a nest of twigs and fallen leaves after digging out the landscaping rock by the house foundation. She wouldn't abandon her efforts and follow Gussie and me to their house last night. So I had to pick her up and carry her.

The only real surprise? Normally, a nesting Golly is quite unpleasant. She made no attempt to batter me with a wing yesterday, didn't yell at me and didn't try to chew off my fingers! Unbitten fingers crossed, I hope she keeps up her kinder, gentler attitude.

I saw robins today! The very first sign of spring here!

I've been hearing them for a week or so. It's so exciting!

It's practically spring here already. The dandelions and daffodils are popping up, robins are singing and already starting to nest, bees are buzzing, and the picnic table was covered in pollen.
