My runners, except for one, have taken the winter off. Today I got 3 from 5 ducks. Is it common for the first few eggs to be a bit smaller as the production line gets up and running?

Hi,

My runners just started laying again too. You'll get little eggs and huge and double yolked before they really settle in to a uniform size. Runner eggs don't get much bigger than chicken eggs, they're little ducks.

Actually, my runner eggs were much bigger than the chicken eggs through last year. e.g. Chicken eggs fit comfortably into "medium" or "large" cartons but "extra large" wouldn't even close over the ducks'.
