Anyone have luck sprouting sunflower without using soil? I've tried in glass pie pans and they end up turning moldy and very rotten smell. I can easily sprout the sunflower in soil(I use sand), but I throw out the sand once I'm done. There was zero mold using the soil.
Maybe I need hubby to dig up a bin full of sand before it snows again. The chickens absolutely love eating sprouts of all kinds! I also sprout alfalfa and a mixture of mung/lentil/and other beans for our own use.
Now that I'm sprouting for my chickens, my yolks are a deep dark orange again! Once the grass and weeds were gone, the yolks were yellow from just eating the chicken layer feed.
If you have any successful ways of sprouting sunflower seeds without using soil, I'd love for you to share with me. Thank you.
