Spur covers?

i also have a rooster in need of spur pads..I looked up boxing gloves for roosters..they are illegal because they assume the worst...I tried to make my own but it didn't go great...I typed in "rooster spur covers"..and I could only find one..they are around $17...they have not arrived yet...I tried the pliers to remove the outer nail however it just made uglier nails...hope that helps...

Why spend a lot of money for spur covers when it's so easy to cover them yourself?

Buy a roll of Vet Wrap, or elastic cling bandage. Cut into twelve inch long strips an inch wide. Stick a cotton ball over the spur tip, then wrap securely with vet wrap, ending the strip in the back of the shank and pressing it firmly to lock it down. You may need to re-bandage every week, but it will do the same job as "spur gloves" and a whole lot cheaper.

The kind of spur covers actually made for chickens are hard to find--I think it is illegal to ship them to most states, because it is assumed that they will be used for fighting birds.

Which is a shame, because there are plenty of people who would just like to cover up their rooster's spurs for back yard chicken purposes! For example, I have a lovely Cuckoo Marans roo that can be a bit protective of his ladies--because of this he lost his free-ranging priveleges. If I could cover his spurs, however, I would let him free range again.

I have heard that some people use those little wire cap thingies from the hardware store ("wire cap thingies"...is that the technical term?

). You super-glue them on, and eventually they fall off.
I wish you had a picture, I am thinkingnof super gluing a bead after I trim them

If someone has a better idea for spur cover than those silly looking boxing gloves please share them! Those are only good for short spurs. Meanwhile we'll have to live with them.
