Hello, I have seen several posts on spurs that have been pulled off , but my young roo fell behind the coop and tore both spurs @80% off,( nearly severing the meat underneath). He did this a week ago. I soaked and applied blue cote and wrapped them attempting to support the 3/4 inch stubs. I hoped they would dry and retract but they have not..I tried to trim but there is still blood supply to the tips. I have a vet nearby who will treat but she is on vacation for 10 more days. Oscar is in a smaller cage by himself and shows no sign of infection but does stand on his right foot and raise the left. He has pain when bandaging.

Can you please post some photos?

If the spurs are still attached you can place them back in the natural position, cover them with neosporin then wrap them real good with vetrap. Wrap them fairly tight above and below to completely cover the spurs. I have done this a few times and they all reattached. I’ve had a couple grow back a little crooked but nothing that couldn’t be managed with trimming. Good luck.

As the injury is not fresh and the open/ unattached area dry, do you think it will still attach?

If it still has blood supply it should. I’m not positive but it’s worth a try.
I can’t really tell without pictures.
Since it’s been awhile if it does reattach its most likely will grow back crooked.
