Spurs on Hens?

Ok, Hello everyone. I also have a hen with spur question. It is now over a year since my most prolific laying hen moulted and stopped laying. She is a black hen, sold to me as an Australorp but I think she is more likely a mixed breed. She was 2 years old at the time, she is now 3 and a half and is magnificent. She has also grown a pair of 1 inch long spurs.
My question is, what has happened? Has she decided to be the Rooster in the flock. Is there any way I can encourage her to lay again?

Help would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to BYC!

I am not sure why this happens to hens. Sometime goes awry with the hormones. And it is common in flocks with no rooster. There is nothing you can do either. She is what she is and that is that. :-)

Enjoy her for who she is and welcome to our flock!

Sorry, can't answer your question, but is you hen a bit of a bully? She may try to attack your other girls with her spurs:-l and that wouldn't be pretty.

Thank you Two Crows. there is no rooster. She is very much loved for who she is.
Chickenlover, she is quite docile, all of them are really.
