Spurtastic cockerel!

Hi all,

I have a sweet ancient old pekin cockerel who still Is fairly perky with his ladies and rules the roost, however as he is no younger then 8 years old! His spurs are at least 4inches long! He walks around like John Wayne and sometimes they look like a bit of a nusence for him. Is there anything I can do to help the little guy out or will it stress him more then it’s worth? He seems happy with himself they just look unnerving!

Spurs can be trimmed or even removed. With an 8 yr + rooster who is doing well - I'd be reluctant to stress him.

@Ceciliasflock here he is! It was quite hard to get a good snap of his spurs because he hides them away with his wonderful feathery legs! But hope you can see...

What a beautiful thing he is!

But those spurs do look like they could be interfering with his ability to walk. If he were mine I'd probably file or trim them.

I'd also worry that he could hurt a hen with them.

Yes that sounds like a good idea! He definitely stands with his leg raised sometimes because I think they get in the way of him putting it down! Can’t be fun for him!
