So: our TSC is very good about trying their hardest to do the right thing and keep their cages very clean and chicks very healthy. It's obvious they care. They also have me come in to run free clinics on chick raising and one other chicken-care topic each week.
That said, they have an employee who is apathetic and put a waterer down on 2 chicks last week, and no one noticed for the entire day. One chick has a malformed skull and bulgy eye, with a neck bent completely under...yet its will to live is so strong I can't cull it- they call me and send all ill chicks home with me to manage.
It's keeping itself well-fed, hydrated, and I'm putting ointment on its bad eye, so it's doing fine, so far, but it has to be named Igor...there's no choice. What will I do with poor Igor? I don't usually keep any hatchery birds. I suppose she can join my layer flock.
How absolutely ridiculous am I?? Saving a bulgy-eyed askew-skulled chick...good grief.
