Squatting/mating

You're welcome

I'm glad to hear it's working out for you and the girls.

Mine still have a long discussion about who is going to sleep where when they go up to roost. They have a particular order that they like to sit in, and if one gets it wrong they all have to shuffle down and make room for the one that missed out on her spot! There is a lot of "bok-bok-boking" while all this shuffling goes on, and then they all settle down and it gets quiet once they are in their proper spots!

I'm pleased they all went up to roost for you. It's amazing the amount of little things that will put them off using a roost. I had the whole 'it's not high enough' issue, and then I had the 'now it's too high and I can't get up there' issue. I swear, I should have called one of the Goldilocks, ha ha! The stadium style steps seem to work a treat though, and they will often sit on the lower roosts during the day to preen, even if they don't sleep there.

By the way, I'm looking out for the sun you promised me and all I can see is rain. When can I expect delivery?!

Keep me posted as to when the first egg arrives. Surely it can't be long now.....

LOL...funny chickens! No egg yet and yes I will post it when it comes. lol Oddly enough we had extreme heat today and the girls dont even want to go in the coop tonight....all nine are roosting outside enjoying the cooler evening....hopfully they head that way before dark or I may just let em stay out...YIKES!

The heat should be headed that way....I sent it twice today.

Just came in from the coop and they went in....lol...funny how they have the same spot as they did last night (best I can tell) I never knew they cared about where. I have 9 feet of roost for the 9 birds in the coop....and they crowd up leaving maybe 2 feet empty. They are snug....I thought as late as they went to bed I was going to have a new issue with them wanting to sleep outside. all is well....just need rest so they can lay eggs in the morning. lol

Yeah, good luck with that.

I'll believe it when I see it!

I don't think your chickens will EVER lay eggs .......

(You may have noticed that I am skillfully employing the age old tactic of "Go on chickens, prove me wrong" here!

Hopefully scrambled eggs for breakfast for you tomorrow!

(PS: I am sure you have already tried the other two tactics - bribery and threats?!)

We got our pullets a week after easter. When I try to scratch their back, they squat all the way to the ground. When we go out there, (we have one rooster), they all make clucking noises. Tiny (a GSL) is the one that laying down the most.
