Hey everyone! I've got Barred Plymouth Rock and RIR pullets (23 weeks old) which have just started to do the 'squat'. It's hilarious when I reach down to pet them, two of them 'asume the position' and let me pet them that way... it's funny... but I was wondering... how long until I can expect them to start laying? What has your experience been ... has anyone noticed how long it was between you first noticed your girls squatting to when they layed their first egg?

2 weeks for Biscuit and Jade, so far a month for Omlette and Emily.

Omlette and Biscuit same clutch, same hatch date.
Emily a bantam barred cochin
and Jade a RIR

they are all at least 26 weeks according to some questionable math in my head...

Yup, just about 2 weeks after squat they lay. Out of 8 girls hatched in August, only 6 are squatting and/or laying, so I'm hoping soon the other two start working!

It will happen soon. YOu will get a long pointy egg and know it was the first one!

My BO laid her egg 2 days after the squat,

My BA laid her egg 5 days after the squat

My brahma is on Day 5 after the squat and no egg yet

It really varies bird to bird. I have one that has been testing nests for the better part of two weeks and she squats, but no egg. Another one we have never did squat, just plopped out an egg.
