I thought Squid being dramatic about seeing me in PJs was just hilarious, so here it be.

Still not sure if Squid is a tom or a hen, but I am a little more than 50% sure that he’s a tom! He’s very chatty—screaming for no reason, all the time, with all his heart—and I think I can feel a beard starting to grow! That or it’s an ingrown feather. Turkeys get those a lot apparently, or at least my hens… (on their neck specifically)

Turkey hens can grow beards too. They just don't get as thick as the ones toms grow.

I've had hens with beards. They are noisier than my Tom. The snod of a tom gets longer than the females and a young tom struts in the typical tom turkey way that everyone knows; not like what your picture shows.

This is a hen trait. A tom would be gobbling.

Didn’t think it was strutting, but rather the same as a cat… getting all puffed up to seem bigger. Gah, if Squid is a hen that’s alright.
