Squirrels

I have more, much much more..

Hi! The 'resident' squirrels here have all run off in the woods somewhere and we only have a few late-season youngsters plundering the feeders and cutting acorns. I thought it was odd because at the first *hint* of a cold spell (but we haven't even had a frost), our squirrels all but disappeared.
I saw a recipe for squirrel pot pie and was looking forward to trying it --- if just to thin the resident squirrel population. But they just aren't here all of a sudden!

I am at war with them since they destroyed all my peaches, nectarines and other fruit. Thanks God they are not destroing citrus fruit.

So far I am winning now, although I have to be vigilant and send any incoming intruder claiming my teritory to animal Hades kingdoom.

I have seen them just outside my yard traveling in packs. I sure hope they don't get that pack mentality going and attack!
All those squirrels will keep my hawk busy, but I know a chicken is a far easier kill than a squirrel.

I live in the woods in middle TN and when I first moved here there were squirrels on every tree, that is a lot because I am almost totally surrounded by trees for miles! Anyway, for several years the squirrels were everywhere. then one year I noticed the squirrels were just GONE! I mean NO squirrels anywhere around my house. I finally decided they must have just moved, I don't know why...I have hickory nut and walnut trees all around me and there were nuts on the trees and a pond and creek for water. I guess they just moved to a different area for some unknown squirrel reason. They did eventually move back into my area but they were gone for about a year. Weird!! I thought squirrels would be like a lot of wild animals and live in a certain 'home range' and not cross over much into other squirrels 'home range'. I actually missed seeing them hop up onto the trees when I opened the front door.
