*I couldn't tell you if a roo would help or not, Blue, I've never had a rooster! BUT, a lot of people at BYC have them. They might know. YOU COULD post a new question and ask something like "Would a roo stop the current alpha hen from bullying". . . --What I'd do probably is I'd separate HARRIET from the flock for a little while, **immediately before** you put your girl (what IS her name anyway???) back in the pen!!!! AND, I'd keep Harriet out for AWHILE and let HER come back as the "newcomer"!!!! Basically-- you'd be rearranging the pecking order. That might make it easier for yours b/c if she's separated long enough, HARRIET would probably have to work her way back up to the top spot!!! Do you think that might work???

I dunno, But my mom might not like it. Harriet is very very noisey and if we have to keep her inside for more than 3 days mom will not like it, because of the smell. The sick one's name is Dingus. We used to have another hen that died and her name was Wingus. Looking to rename Dingus cause you can't realy have a Dingus without a Wingus.

The problem is Harriet is not even on the top of the pecking order! Bertha (BO) is. Wouldnt she have to bully Dingus agian to get back to her spot in the order?

I suppose she would at that! Are you getting any more chickens this spring? B/c then, if Harriet took a "vacation", she would have to fight her way through THEM, too b/f she got to Dingus! Maybe you have a neighbor w/chickens who could keep Harriet a little while and let Dingus have some peace. Or you could make a small "naughty bird" pen to put her in when she being too mean. OR, what I do when my animals are mis-behaving is I haue a spray bottle of water and I hit em with the spray a couple times. That works--but, only when Im home to catch them, of course. My only other idea would be to put a TINY dab of red poster paint out on Harriet's tail feathers and let her find out what it's like to be picked on for a day or so-- she MIGHT be nicer then, MAYBE!!

My mom does not want to get anymore. If I had if my way though we would have 10 of them instead of 3!!! :thun I don't know what to do with Harriet! maybe I could try and train her not to be mean, but if I can't I am afriad it may be the end for Dingus.

* Try some of my suggestions, blue, and post to ask for MORE ideas--- I REALLY don't think chickens are as dumb as we sometimes take them for. Before too long I bet Harriet would work it out that when she's mean, she gets punished!!!-- however you decide to do it. How's Dingus today-- anymore problems???

I would bring her in the house and yes put a towel in with her. Over the crate would be ok. The white in the poop is just urates....or urine. You could wet some feed.....no corn and offer it to her. Even using hot water until it gets warm may be appreciated! Yes you can give her yogurt. Maybe she has some sort of infection? Terramycin may help her. You just add it in the water. I forgot the amount per gallon, but I was told that you can pretty much over dose some and they will be ok. I think I always used 1/4 cup per gallon water for a strong dose. Maybe someone else could help you better then I can.

Since Dingus's confinment Harriet has paid little attention to Dingus. But Dingus does not seem to want to eat any chicken food. I think she is avoiding eating. She did eat some yesterday when it had yogert mixed with it and Harriet in our house.

*You said she didn't seem any lighter than normal-- Is that still true??? And, she ate well enough while inside?? Is she still laying?? If so, how are her eggs now? Shelled o.k.?? My chicken, Miss Chook, doesn't eat much on the mornings she is due to lay an egg, but she makes up for it after she drops the egg. . . . Maybe Dingus does that, too.

She has not laid an egg since her confinement, She did not seem to eat while inside. She is running around outside now so she must be eating something!
