Hi!

This is my first time being a chicken momma and I noticed that my SS (Cardamom) is developing much slower than the other ladies. She still has a lot of her baby feathers after 4.5 weeks. (I got them all at the same time: 2x silver spangled hamburg, rhode island red, 2x black australorp, easter egger, ameraucana). Is this a breed thing or is there something I should be doing to make sure that she is developing properly? (Also, is she a she? -- I did order all females but know that sexing at young ages can be hard to tell). I have also noticed that she tends to keep to herself a bit more than the others. I have included some pictures in case that helps.

Thank you so much and sorry if it is a silly Q! I just want to make sure I am being a good chicken momma.

Comparing chicks to one another, especially if they are different breeds is not usually an accurate way to tell if they are growing. Focus on the individual - take note if she's eating/drinking, active, being kept from food by the others, etc.
Weighing her every couple of days is a good way to determine if she's growing/gaining.

What are you feeding?

Ok thank you -- I was trying to find a growth chart to see what percentile she is in but was unable to do so (I am keeping track of her weight weekly). In terms of her behavior she seems to keep mainly to herself. The other chicks don't appear to be keeping her from food or anything -- she just kind of does her own thing. At night she will sleep with the group so that was reassuring.

I am feeding them Manna Pro Chick Starter (Medicated) as well as this past week just introduced them to chick grit and a tiny tiny bit of carrot top greens (trying to start gradual).

I don't think there is a growth chart or I've never seen one.
Is she gaining weight?

Some chick(en)s do do their own thing...she may be like that all her life. I have a WLeghorn that never really made a buddy, she dances to the beat of her own drum. She does roost and eat with the others, but she prefers to just do her thing.

Seems like you are doing good with feed, grit and treats :)

Yep! Her growth curve seems to look ok so far and dang I wish they had some.

Ha as long as she is happy and healthy I am ok with her being a little out there :P

Thank you for the help! :)
