So I've decided to collect eggs and set every week on my off days, prolly every wed. I've got a bunch of fertility testing to do with adding two new roos, 2 new varieties, and everybody coming off of their winter break. Gotta build up some numbers for breeders. Plus I've got mile long waiting lists for people who want eggs. Pretty sure the deal we had going with the local feed place isn't gonna fly. I think that he thought he was getting barnyard mutts for about a buck a piece. I took him over a photo collage to hang up with our breeders on it. Cut him a heck of a low deal on chicks, and he said he'd think about it. Originally he wanted 100 chicks regardless of what they were on the week before easter. Oh well, his loss. I'm not letting chicks with a lot of potential go for pennies.
That's kinda what I'm thinking, just send eggs every other week. I'm getting 3 a day right now from the white crested b/b/s and cuckoo coop though. So I can still ship 12-15 of those out and still get a couple days worth for incubating for us. I marked that giant crested pullet in there and she isn't laying yet. I've been working on her every day to get her in shape to show too.
I candled the other day and the first couple split lav eggs from Mulan are fertile, then rearranged pens because she was getting ganged up on with two split roos in the pen, and she stopped laying. Think there's 8 or 9 from the original 2 pullets in the split pen in the bator right now. Had to get her separated because I want her eggs for right now. She is the perfect bantam size for a silkie and her personality is awesome.
