Stablising a Little Giant!

You get what you pay for and being a low end bator it isnt perfect. Obviously there are alot of folks out there who think LGs are junk. But with a little patience, and practice before you set your eggs, you can have successful hatches.

This is why I commented about your post. An lg is junk and in this case you get way less than you pay for if you compare it to bators of equivalent cost. Yes it can hatch and I have dozens if not hundreds of chicks from mine but LG bators are far too temperamental with too many design flaws to rank even with other bators in the same class. Having a hova bator to compare to my lg... well they don't really compare...

I agree!!! rainstorm, use what ya got! Not everyone can run out and buy a new incubator that costs more money. I know your new to hatching and this is your first time. (way to go ya'll, crushing her spirits)Just know, as long as you try, you will one day suceed!(she picked this up second hand today and was very excited! do you all remember that feeling?)

they are touchy, adjust slightly. I would say a bowl of water with a sponge inside might help the humidity. I mean i battle with my genisis all the time and that is a great bator. Just try to get the temps 100-101 since it is still air. try to put it in a place that the temp stays the same ,with little drafts.

In the mean time, turn your eggs 2x a day until they go into the bator. I am sure more people will chime in and help this "young" lady with her problems instead of telling her to get a hammer and kill her incubator she spent her hard earned money on!!! We all have to live and learn! Lets try to answer her questions~ IT'S CALLED HELPING HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was nice to meet you today rainstorm! You, your brother , cousin and uncle were very nice peeps! Hope you see ya all again~

PM me with any questions, don't be afraid!! Let me know when you put my ducks eggs in

I don't think any of us were trying to crush her spirit....just giving her an honest evaluation of our experiances with the LG. I used mine...or tried to use it for several years and killed more eggs than I care to think about.

Think she just needs help getting it stable. Any suggestions besides getting another one? Since you had one, what's the best way to work with what she's got. I want to help her since this is her first hatch and she got some cool eggs today. OK, maybe she will have a low hatch rate but how can we help her.

I don't know what to tell her. Mine would be at a stable temp for days, in the basement with very stable temps and I'd go down to check and would have spiked too high or dropped too low. Sometimes the temp swings wouldn't be too bad, but I still didn't have very good hatch rates with it. Temp and humidity were just too hard to control with it.

Whatever you decide to do, don't ever rely on the thermometer that came with it. My hatch rate went way up when I got a good thermometer. Don't ever adjust it right before bed or leaving the house. I don't know how people get it to hold a temp. I never did but I did get so I could sleep or go somewhere for a few hours without worrying. If you open it for any reason or change the setting you have to watch it for at least a couple of hours.

Good luck - hope you have a great hatch!

I dont think she asked for evaluations or for opinions. She asked could it be stabilized.

You assumed she could just box it up and take it back or run out and buy a new one.

Rather than just answer the question, or try to be positive and helpful, you start trashing what she has available to use.

Maybe it's just a case of being smarter than the equipment you're using....just a thought. (that comment isn't directed at you, Rainstorm)

lol i have an lg from tractor supply, i also have a hovabator and some really old styrafoam bator that is AMAZING for temps and incubating but the lg is only used as a hatcher, but it works great for lockdown and hatching the eggs when i have hatches going on at diff. times lol
