Hi everyone!
I'm currently hatching cortinux quail eggs in a still air Little Giant (turning myself.) The eggs are 9 days apart due to super slow shipping from one supplier and poor planning on my part. I have 2 questions I hope someone with more experience than me can answer.
1) Can I put the first batch in something like a plastic Tupperware container ( no lid of course) for lockdown and hatching to minimize the mess and germ spreading? I was thinking I'd put a jar of water w/ a sponge in the container to keep the humidity up.
2) Would the second batch be ok not turning for a few days while the first were in lock down and hatching? Or is better to open up and turn quickly during that time?

Thanks for reading this and and advice offered!

How did the basket turn out?

Both the container and not turning for a couple of days are fine

I hatched in an egg carton and it was pretty clean. I thought it would keep the chicks contained but they damaged 2 of the newer eggs. 🤷 Live and learn. The second batch just went into lockdown today so fingers crossed.

I use two incubators for hatching during staggered hatches.
I have hatched in tomato baskets with lids to separate groups for a breeder. She needed to keep track of the chicks hatched from different hens and roosters
