I have 2 staggering chickens, a barnyard mix roo and a sebright hen. She is about 10 months old and never laid.
They were fine and then it was at least a few months ago that they started staggering. I had to remove both of them from the coop because they were getting picked on. I'm just wondering if you think it could be some sort of a disease? I'm inclined to think it isn't because the rest of the chickens that they were in with are all fine. I'm just concerned because I have my new chicks arriving in a couple of weeks and their brooder is in the same shed that the other 2 are in...
There are no signs of visible injury on them, they just walk a little off balance. They eat and drink fine, their poo is fine...they are just a little different.
I will try and get a video of them today.

i posted yesterday about my staggering(stumbling) hen also.. she seems fine in every other way, but isn't getting around much and don't want her picked on... no new ideas at this point but i'm still looking...

Mine also sits and shakes. She is in a warm room, and again nothing physically wrong with her, she just sits and shakes and when she walks she stumbles.

no shaking here... she can't figure out why she's not with her buddies, tho...looking at symptoms for everything i can think of and the diseases with these symptoms are not acceptable !! hope it doesn't turn out to be contagious...playing the wait and see game

Is it possible they could have gotten into a pesticide, herbicide, or rodenticide? Staggering can be a neurological sign of poisoning.

I don't think so...I mean I guess it's possible however none of the other hens are acting funny and we don't use any chemicals around the coop. Actually we don't use them period.
At first I thought maybe the rooster was injured but again, no sign of physical injury. I guess their heads could have been knocked around....

I was just holding one of the staggery bantams and saw little clear bugs all over her head. She is living with the rooster. Is it possible that these mites/lice could get into her ear and cause her balance to be off?
