Staining/sealing run

You just need a clean dry surface to paint on. You don't need a solvent cleaner, that's usually for repurposed wood or for reapplying stain or paint on existing exterior wood. Rinsing is enough to get loose particles and dust off the wood. My father was a commercial contract painter. Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's helpful! As a consumer, it's hard to know whether to trust the manufacturers, or if they're just trying to sell more product!
