I have an interesting flock. I have 1 bantam hen (used to have 2 but 1 recently vanished
), 1 bantam rooster, and 3 standard size hens.;
They are all around 4 1/2 months old and this is my first time owning chickens. My Rooster is a bantam cochin and he's very sweet. A little over a month ago, he threw himself in front of my dog to save his ladies, and by the time I got to him his little body was completely limp. I nursed him back to health for about 2 weeks so he's very attached to me. Unfortunately, he's a little handicapped from the incident. He doesn't scratch with his foot like the others- he uses his beak instead. And I think his balance has been the biggest thing affected, he even stumbles sometimes. I don't know if it's because of his handicap or because he's a bantam but Calypso, my Black Star hen, is such a bully to him! He's my favorite but Calypso is like my second favorite so I don't want to get rid of either of them! I notice she always steals the treats I give them...he will be eating his treats and she'll be eating hers, but as soon as she sees him eat something she drops everything to go steal it from him. Today he was sitting on his perch and she came up behind him and plucked out 3 of his butt feathers! This is gross but I don't know if it might matter: he has a dirty butt right now and when she picked his butt feathers she tried eating them! I've noticed them eat poop before so....??? I just really need to know how to handle this please!
