Ok so I had done a mix batch of standards and bantams when I got my chicks. I have a bantam something (breed guessed but not confirmed) and 2 silkies. However my one silkie is about as big as my barred rock chicks (1st pic). The other is still smaller like my probable d'uccle bantam (2nd pic). Is there a such thing as a larger silkie or is he/she just growing fast?

You from the states or elsewhere?
In the states we only have what is considered bantams.
I have heard rumors of some larger ones produced for meat but they aren't common at all.
What is common though is poor breeding in hatchery stock which produces a range in size. A lot of hatchery silkies are larger then the standard calls for.

In the States. New York. It appeared about the same size as the other 2 bantams when I got them a week ago. But it's growing fast!

Sorry, I didn’t know there are only bantams in the US. We have large fowl and bantams in the UK.

So I believe my "extra small" silkie had developmental problems. Unfortunately he/she passed away this morning. Just wasn't as active as the rest and I'm not sure it was getting all the nutrients it needed to grow. Sad morning in the house. Other 7 chicks are thriving and ready to get out of the brooder soon!
