Hi all!

I am new to your forum and this is my very first post!

I have a splash standard cochin roo who was purchased as an adult. I really admire him and was wondering which of my birds to mate to him to reproduce the splash pattern in the offspring.

I have black and blue cochin hens.

Any help or advice would be sincerely appreciated as I have searched the web time and again with no success in getting this answered.

Thanks in advance!

I think that if you would breed him to the blue hens then you would get 50% splash and 50% blue. Then you breed his splash offsprig to him and get 100% splash.

. I asked a question very similar to that a while ago so I still am not completely sure. I hope I helped.

Edited to fix something stupid.

Splash X Blue = 50% splash & 50% Blue

Splash X Black = 100% Blue

Forgot to add: Splash X Splash = 100% Splash

Breeding splash to splash will result is some black chickens also. The Blue gene is a result of black genes, so don't be surprised when a black chick hatches.

Thanks for all your responses and the welcomes!!!

I really appreciate it.

This seems like a wonderful forum. Glad I happened in here.

don't know if you are interested but you could contact judy gnatt(cochins rule website)she lives in nc too.she breeds some wonderful splashes and mottles and probably tell you a lot of info on this, plus she sold me some great birds. very nice person!

Not to disagree but in the 5 years we have been breeding cochins, never have our splash cochins produced black. If splash + splash might equal some black then the splash with black would not be 100% blue. You would have a small % of black chicks as well.

Splash is a true color even though there are 2 recessive blue genes mixed in.

Just my 2 cents.
