Well , we had a gully washer today . ITS pouring down and just looked outside and MY WHOLE chicken run has standing water .

Good thing I have part of that run covered with a heavy duty vinyl tarp ... BUT I guess with the direction the rain came in did not help .

LOOKS like we going to be very busy adding more sand to that area and totally enclosing the run with more tarps . ESP. since we do have a tropical storm that could be entering the gulf next week . ALOT to consider when one has chickens ....

Other than sand... I just tarp. However, we rarely get driving rains. I've tarped 4 walls of tractor and water only seems to seep in about 6 inches on each side. The tarp goes down each side and out about 6 inches to a foot. We get lots and lots of drizzle.

Basically you have to either raise the floor of the run up above the level of the water by adding more gravel/sand (gravel, or a mix, will stay put better than sand alone; and you will need grade boards at the edges of the run to limit erosion), or dig ditches to lower the water in the run by diverting the water away.

Or ideally, both.

Good luck,

Pat
