Hey y’all, I’m new to chickening, this is my first season with chicks and I keep getting the feeling that this 7 week old Starlight Green Egger might not be the girl I thought she was. I had a Black Australorp that was showing strong signs of rooster at 4 weeks and of course turned out to be a cockerel, and seeing that this one is already 7 and doesn’t have as robust a comb and waddle makes me lean pulley but she does have more developed comb and waddle than her hatch mates, and she is the flightiest and most vocal of the brood which has me questioning rooster. Any thoughts?

Don't know if you will find this amusing or not: It is getting later here, and, of course, people can be from anywhere on BYC. So I was looking at the small photos attached to your first post and I thought that the animal in the background of photo 3 was a bit further away and said to myself "wow, they have an elephant walking behind their chicken!"

I saw your dog's leg as the trunk!

From what I have read, between 12 and 15 weeks is when most cockerels will begin to crow. I can not determine gender in mixed breeds at all. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some experienced eyes (ones that can distinguish between a dog and an elephant!)

Haha! I found your field study quite amusing! Thank you so much for your humorous reply! That elephant you saw was of course just my dog who adores the new hens (and possible cockerels)
