Started 1st coop yesterday!

An updated pic. I plan to finish coop and get going on the run over the ling weekend. The chicks are now 1 1/2 weeks old and growing like weeds. So fun to watch them run and kind of jump fly around the brooder. I've taken them outside a couple times and we sit with them in a little area I fenced in just for outdoor field trips

Still need to cut in vents and a window, fi ish up the nesting boxes, some trim and paint ( painting is the job for the wife and kids, lol)

The two biggest things you will come to not like about that design is limited access under for cleaning and difficult access inside for human size to clean. Also limited height for proper spacing of roost and nest box.

A walk in coop is a much better design.

Oh no! Well I can stand up in the coop although I would have to use a small step or build stairs to get in. My thought was at that height
my wheelbarrow fits right under the large door and I can just pull the bedding right in. From coop floor to peak is 6.5ft down to 5'6" on the lower side. I have enough room for roosting perches to be set at 20" -26" from the floor leaving over 2' from hens head height to bottom of vents Im cutting in. What would have been a more appropriate spacing then? If I run into a lot of problems down the road I have no issue building a new one but hopefully this will work out fir a while. Thanks for the input!

Could also please explain what is wrong with the nesting boxes. I purposely havent finished them in the event they need some re- design. Thanks

The photo makes it look much smaller than it is, I'm glad you can stand up in it as that makes cleaning and maintenance much easier.

I was just saying in general about the heights of things because usually coops like that are usually tiny little things with no room height wise to get the roost higher than the nest box so they won't want to sleep and poop in the nest box. With your height you have everything in the best place.

A set of steps would be ideal, maybe even a small deck with some chicken furniture.

Great to hear, thanks so much. I was worried for a minute. The picture does make it look smaller. Nit including the nest boxes, its 6'×6' with the height I mentioned previously. Im then adding an attached run 10'×12'×7'. Hopefully I can finish over the long weekend. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

Something to remember about building coops. Mine is not tall enuff for me to stand up inside, but it’s perfect height so my wife can. Always thinking.

Thanks, I did make sure I can stand in it. Its tough to tell from the pic but its a little over 6 feet from floor to ceiling on the high side. I will have to crouch a little on the lower side but Ill manage
