Started building - look what we have so far ... UPDATE !!! Moving day

Thank you so much for the compliments on the coop. My husband doesn't build houses for a living but very much enjoys it. I really love how it turned out but midway I just wanted it done and was complaining how long it took

. My DH is just a perfectionist and doesn't like to take shortcuts.
I haven't told him yet but I am already thinking about a second coop for some bantams next year

You'll love it when it is finished! Beautiful coop and will be very functional and user friendly! Congratulations to you and your talented husband! He is definitely a coop builder extraordinaire!

Beautiful Coop! Not only the outside, but you've done a great job inside too!

Looks like you have melanine for the poop board...should make cleaning soo much easier. The 1x4 on top of the misplaced 2x4 is a good idea. The 2x4 gives strength, and the flat 1x4 gives a flat surface for the birds. Good luck!

Those are some very lucky chickens. I want to move into their coop -- it's built better than my house!

I love the roof line too, it would work well here in northern Indiana to keep the snow and ice from piling on the roof. The foundation framing is also amazing - did he build the beams, or buy them at a lumberyard? I bet you could keep a horse in that coop and it wouldn't even sag. Good job guys. you need to submit the finished coop on the coops page.

I am still in the planning stages for a small flock of 4-5 probably Plymouth Rocks, working on building a brooder box. Need to start building a coop but am undecided on what style - tractor or fixed. Your design sure makes me lean towards fixed coop. Thank for sharing.

I'm sure everyone is thinking: "How much did it cost?"

We have about $2,000 sunk into ours already and just recently realized that we over-engineered everything.
