I keep medicated starter and Layena pellets in the coop. My broody has moved her chicks into the coop. The older chickens seem to prefer the starter. It hasn't hurt the broody but she is not laying. The yokes of the chickens are turning pale. Shells still in good shape. What is one to do? This has been going on over 2 weeks now.

Are you keeping the starter in the coop for the chick's benefit?

If you only want the broody to eat her layer feed, maybe sprinkle some sunflower seeds or her favorite treats on it. And keep the starter feed where only the little chicks can get at it.

Does anybody else have any suggestions?

The chick starter is higher in protein. I am sure that is why they are choosing it. It won't hurt them.
