starter incubator

I am wondering what a good incubator is for a newbie? I want something not to big, and it really doesnt have to hold a lot of eggs. Auto turner would be a plus. Any recomendations?? I really can not wait to start hatching my own eggs

I really am not sure to be honest, I don't want something super fancy untill I know what I am doing.

I have found the Hova-Bator 1588 to be awesome for my limited knowledge with room to expand my for my growing obsession. I bought the optional auto turner and the whole thing was about 170.00

I recently purchased the Brinsea Eco 20 with the turning cradle. They were on sale a couple of months ago, and I read on BYC that they are on sale again. For less than $200 (sale prices) I don't think you can beat the Brinsea. It keeps such steady temps! Easy to control humidity. The turning cradle rotates the whole incubator automatically. The incubator holds 24 eggs and is easy to clean when the hatching is done. I built a homemade incubator that I'm really proud of, but I have to say, the Brinsea is a dream to use. I had a 100% hatch on shipped eggs last month.

Yeah. My homemade bator works well. I hatched twice in it. First hatch, I got 9 chicks out of 24 eggs. Second hatch--21 out of 30. It does require more attention IMO than the Brinsea, but I built it myself (with help from DH) and it does work. It's a Coleman cooler with a light bulb for heat, water heater thermostat, and computer fan for air circulation.

You can buy a used hovabator for what it costs to buy decent heaters , fans and thermostats for a homemade one. Here is a link to a used one on byc. I would recomend getting one with a fan.

Good garden o' peas. Ya got four kids for pete's sake. If ya kin raise them ya kin do an incubator. Ya are raising em aren't ya? Good Lord the way sum kids are today ya think they raised themselves. My aunt's kids, blah, blah, blah, blah, ................................................................
