If I get a couple hens, and buy some eggs that are a mix (of breeds, or one breed) and place them under her one a day, will she eventually go broody and raise them for me?

Not necessarily. You could wait and see if one of your hens goes broody, and then buy some fertile eggs for her to hatch. But if you put the eggs out and hope that one of them sits on them, more than likely you'll lose the eggs.

Well, I don't have any chickens right now nor electricity to the coop. I want to start my own flock, but might need to buy some mature chickens instead because I don't have electricity. And I can't seem to find a solar-powered heat lamp (for chicks).
