I plant my garden, nothing "special" for my girls. I have a huge garden and I can and dehydrate everything. I give them the peels, the things that are starting to go bad because I didnt find them in time, and if we have enough canned and we are just sick of eating it..they get that too. There is nothing that my girls dont get (ok maybe not onions and rhubarb). My garden consist of: corn, green beans, muskmelon, watermelon, cucumbers, pumpkins, acorn squash, spagetti squash, zucchini, radishes, potatoes, beets, turnips, winter onions, scallion onions, strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, carrots, green peppers, sugar snap peas, tomatoes, spinach, romaine and leaf lettuce, ruby and swiss chard, and kale....um..I think thats it. opps and brussel sprouts. I tried broccoli the last two years and it wouldnt grow right so I'm going to do a fall planting and if it still doesnt work I'm giving up and buying it at the store!
Plus the neighbor has pear and apple trees, so they get that too.
My garden is linked to my chicken run so at the end of the season they get to go through and find the things I missed. I compost poop, shavings from my coop and use it on my garden. I also put grass between my rows to kill weeds. It will compost over the garden season and winter and add to the soil. if I have extra grass I toss it in the chicken compost.
