I'm starting a new bio-security system. I've been very lucky thus far and have had problems, but I want to be more vigilant starting this year. I have lots of guests at my farm, tourists really. I run a farmstay. I'm thinking of having wooden boxes or trays filled with powdered desiccant where people can disenfect their shoes before entering my barns.

I'm interested in hearing what you do! And where you buy your supplies.

So glad that people are taking bio security seriously.

When taking a summer course at Cornell Uni. last summer, I got a tour of their Veterinary Hospital. Even though they did many extra-high bio security things (ex. surgical gowns in the experimental mouse room), a couple great practical ideas were disposable booties and boot washing stations (at Cornell, it was like a ink stamp used for stamps with disinfection instead of ink).
One point of advice for showing off your chickens. Since they are vulnerable to a lot of diseases that can spread very easily (ex. Marek's Disease), it might be a good idea to just let your visitors view them from a balcony/platform overlooking the run.
