Starting a new Flock - Breed selection

I don't vaccinate. Sometimes the chicks I buy from the feed store have the Merek's vaccine. I've never had an issue with disease, etc in my flock. I only buy day old chicks, or hatch my own. Personally I think a lot of disease issues come from bringing in adult birds, especially "rescues". Don't ever take in an ill bird because you feel sorry for it unless you have the facilities to properly quarantine and are willing to go through all the work that entails.

OK, I think we have settled on the following. Maybe.

Thinking 3 each of the below (total 15)... chicken math has already set in.
Buff Orphington
Blue Cochin
New Hampshire Red
Black Australorp
Americana

Maybe Silkies... Wondering - should I get the ones locally that are 3 months old and let them 'raise' the babies or just get all as chicks and raise them together???
