Starting A Poultry Butchering "Shop"

My only problem will be plucking them , will that effect prices?

I know that most people up here will not want skinned birds because they are very attached to the birds that are from the supermarket. I have actually had people who I processed for who then told me they didn't want the bird because their were black pin feathers (since the bird had been black) and that "wasn't normal" lol. People want the illusion even if they aren't getting from the supermarket that the birds are the same. So I guess I am saying that yes it would be hard to be a butcher if you didn't pluck for your customers.

Try to market your business as skinning only there are people who like the idea of raise there own meat but when comes to butchering don't want anything to do with it.Poultry processors are rare in a lot of places so if you don't have any in your area you might be ok.The place close to me closed down and the only other place I know of is 2 hour drive. In my area it only cost 2 dollars a bird .I would save some money and build ,rent, or buy a plucker as soon as possible.

You have to pluck the birds....

Nobody wants a skinned turkey for thanksgiving.

If you don't have a plucker, use a drill or a hot pot and do it by hand. It takes less than 5 minutes to hand pluck a dipped chicken.

What about ducks? You cook them with the skin on, it's the only reason to eat one lol

If you can afford to start up the business, you can afford a plucker. Plus you will loose more customers than you will will get trying to skin birds.

Do it right, or stay home

You skin them, that's what I've always done because I'm not good at plucking them m or do I have the time

I'm afraid you are going to have to learn. Most people want the skin on.
