We have raised eggs for sale for the past 2 years. 30 Production Barred Plymouth Rocks, with a random assortment of maybe 6-10 bantams, and a few Cubalayas too. We sell all the eggs as free-range, pastured, grass fed, fertilized, local, natural, you get it, right? Selling your eggs as that is a must, otherwise, you will lose money. I sell large eggs for $3.50 a dozen, and bantam/cuba eggs for $1.50 a dozen. Letting the birds range for food is also a must, they will just eat too much pellets otherwise!! I do not make any real money selling eggs, but, I do cover all the feed costs, and misc. supplies easily. That includes feed for the 60 chicks we raised and killed the past 2 years, so, the egg sales pay for us to have all the eggs and chicken meat we can eat, plus, for me to do various breeding projects. If you sell eggs for less than $3.00 a dozen, you are losing money,I can promise you that!! People will not pay a fair premium for just fresh eggs, they have to be pastured eggs. My customers do not care what color the eggs are, or what breed they come from, but, smalls are always a hard sell.
