Starting a Thread???"Emoji's"???

Hello!
I have the mobile app for backyard chickens, and other than using the start a new thread link, I cannot figure out how to start a new thread anywhere!! (How can you tell I am new.. XD) also, I can't figure out where the emoji-like things are to use, I feel any posts I do will be so desolate and flat sounding XD, I have discovered a few faces made out of regular typing apparel, but is there somewhere specific to click?
Any help appreciated, thanks!!!

Sorry I don't know anything about the mobile ap. I don't have a cell phone. With a computer, you will find the emoticons in the browser bar. It's the icon with the smilie face.

Once you click on that, you will see all that are available here. I especially love to use them - because it clarifies if someone is kidding or being very serious. For instance,
