starting broilers---best feed?

This bunch I started on Game Bird Starter which is 28% protein. At 3 weeks now, I am transitioning them to Purina Flockraiser which is around 21% give or take a bit. The seem to prefer the Flockraiser, but I wonder if it has more to do with the size of the pellets than the taste. When they were smaller GB was perfect and gave them a good start. Game bird starter almost looks like crumbles. To use the last bit up, we have been mixing it with some water to make a mash, which they love and clean every bit up. It seems easier for them to eat than when it is dry.

I use the game bird/turkey grower (28%) and I've been happy with my results. I don't like the idea of giving them medicated feed.

I also give them bits of grass clippings, bugs, and noodles and such, because even though they are meat birds, they are still chickens, and chickens like treats.
