Starting Deep Litter on Established Lawn?-

I live in the city. I just completed my coop 4'x5' attached to a 7x5' run. There is no floor. The coop and run rest on the grass. Should I dig up the turf and dig down a bit (6 inches) before I place pine shavings and other carbon material on the floor or is that just making more work for myself?

All advice is welcome and appreciated.

no just leave it I would let let the chickens eat the grass first and then start the deep litter.
