Hey ya'll. I've got my incubator back out, regulated and ready for some eggs. 2 of my eggs are fresh laid today, and 6 are less than a week old in the fridge. If you've seen my thread about my breeding combinations, this is liable to be an interesting experiment. This time around the only combinations I've got is my BR rooster with either my BR hen or Sexlink hen. Turns out my RIR rooster is too chicken (pun intended) to hang in the same pen, and had to be put with my Isa Brown pullets. There's not much point to this post. I'm recovering from pancreatitis, excited to get this hatch started, and not sleepy at all...... So comments, questions, rude remarks, random ramblings, etc welcome.

Well Good luck

Hope your recovery goes well. I love barnyard mixes and from your own flock is exciting to me.

i plan on experimenting myself. I have 2 going into lock down on Thursday from my flock. The combinations are endless. My flock has several barnyard mixes to begin and had 4 different roosters possible. Maran, Barnvelder or Ameracuana. I don't think it will be an ameracauna dad though.

Hope your incubation goes well and that you get pleasant results.

Thanks. So when you seperate a pair, how long do you leave them? Also are they integrated with the rest of the flock otherwise? Any idea where I can find information on multiple rooster/ multiple hen breeding? I'm confused about things like that. Thanks for answers and good wishes. Sorry for all the questions, and good luck to all ya'll as well.

Well I'm sure there in info here on BYC. What I've read is that the rooster sperm can make a chicken fertile for up to a month. 2 weeks easy but possible up to a month so.... I would say if you wanted to sell pure bred eggs you'd need a month before you started collecting eggs.

But I"m sure there are alot more experts than me out there. I can tell you my rooster has been gone for 3 weeks and at week 2 I was still seeing fertile eggs and that the egg in the bator were collected about a week after he got chopped.
