Starting from SCRATCH in Georgia

Hiya, Susan, and welcome to BYC! :frow

So now I'm very limited to the breed of chicken I can get.

Have you ever considered getting an incubator or borrowing someone's and doing a hatch? You could google good breeders of whatever breed and find yourself some hatching eggs. That's how I've gotten some great silkies. I've also gotten eggs off of eBay a couple of times. I've heard of some who bought hatching eggs off Amazon. I went and looked and found these for example.

Good luck in your venture, and hope you're back to the egg business soon!

Hello BY Chickeners!
I'm back after being a chickenless renter for a few years. It was a very sad time ;(
In 2015, I began my chicken journey by buying a house and a few acres already "equipped" with about a dozen chickens. I learned the ropes and at one point had about 40 chickens of various breeds and life-stages. I have really missed those ladies clucking around the yard, all their unique personalities etc...
I now have two acres for free-ranging and I will build a new chicken tractor due to lots of predators in the area. Finally, I get to choose some chickens to start a new flock. I'm excited but sadly, I've just missed the prime chick buying season. So now I'm very limited to the breed of chicken I can get. I only raise chickens for egg production and I can sell eggs very easily near me for $7-9/dz. So I need an excellent producer. There's also a pretty high demand for blue/green eggs in my area.
I'm open to any advice and/or suggestions on starting from scratch. I'm looking forward to learning more about chickens and you all as well.

Bok bok,
Susan
