Starting grit-Do I give it separate or mix with feed?

I have 2 and 3 week old Silkies and I am getting ready to give them some other foods, (they have been getting chick starter crumbles only so far.) Should I give them the grit in a separate place/container or sprinkle it on a paper towel, mix it in with their chick feed, or what? I'm just wondering what the best method would be? Thanks in advance!

offering it free choice in its own container would be good

I put it in with the feed and I have a separate dish I keep full and I also will just toss some in the run from time to time.
