I am starting a small hatchery in Carrollton, Ga(30 minutes west of Atlanta), hope to have 8-10 breeds with 1000 birds by the end of 09. Right now i have 143 rhode island reds which will begin laying in may. (approx 80 available a day, 117 hens)

I'm picking up my 1000+ egg petersime 4th incubator this weekend, and hope to be selling day old chicks. Hoping to copy the dimensions and fabricate a couple copies of what works. Anyway -

I am looking for a few things and would appreciate everyone's help.

I need:

1. Shipping boxes for Day Old Chicks.
2. Day old vaccines and medication (Marek's, bronchitis etc)
3. What agencies should I register with to be on the up and up?
4. Debeaker.
5. Egg sanatition/fumigation for incubators.

If you guys could help me find these things I'd greatly appreciate it!

(other breeds will eventually include, Black Australorps, Pearl-White leghorn, Silkies(blue, black, white), Silver Laced Wyandottes, Cornish game, O.E. game, Dominiker, Mallards, Geese, And maybe your favorite breed!)

Wow! I am excited that there will be a hatchery *kind of* close to me.

Let us know when you start hatching!

I'm curious--- what birds will you be debeaking and why?

Edited to say, I'm not trying to be snotty-- I just was wondering if you were planning to debeak them all-- not something I'd be interested in.

Wish I could help. I'm usually on the other end.

But if we keep 'bumping' this hopefully someone who can help will post.

I think the answers to your questions will be interesting for all of us.

Most breeders get their chick boxes from Horizon micro environments:

Vaccines I would get from Cuttler supply

Agencies you will have to register with are the NPIP for pullorum typhoid, USDA for using shell eggs, your state department of ag might have some type of registration and many states that you might ship to would as well.

Cuttlers might be able to help you out with a debeaker supplier. Some customers want their birds debeaked so that they do not pick at eachother. Sanitation and fumigation would also come from cuttlers.

I can help you if you have more questions or if I can help you with getting stock as well.

God's blessing to your new venture. I started Purely Poultry because I know that I can serve my customers well. I combine a great offering of breeds at great prices. I see the opportunity to help people with their passions. I look forward to serving you in any way that I can!

I get Mareks, Newcastles, fowl pox vaccines from Jefferslivestock.com. They also have antibiotics, probiotis and such. Orders over $45 they used to ship free.
