Hi everyone, I am new to the group and will be utilizing this website a lot! We are in the Kansas City area so if anyone is interested in selling or swapping chickens let me know! The previous homeowners left their flock of about 15 chickens with us and we have gone pretty crazy with adding to that flock since we've moved in.
We have about 30+ chickens right now. I decided to stop keeping count after my husband kept bringing home new chicks every day.
Our flock is one big mix of every kind of chicken. We have laced wyandottes, marans, easter eggers, olive eggers, and others. Our chicks are a mix of silkies, cochins, polish, and mystic marans (hopefully the chocolate colored eggers). We also have Sebastopol geese, two dogs, and two cats. We like to say we are working our way into a full blown zoo.
Each animal has their own personality and watching them all is what really makes us happy. Our love for animals is what motivates our farm life, but that is what also makes it really difficult. We've already had one incident where an animal killed a goose and several chickens. Losing the animals we become attached to has been the hardest part for us so far.
Unfortunately, our family doesn't get much bigger than just my husband and I. Our chihuahua, spaniel mix, and two cats are all inseparable from each other and act like a little family to us. I love showing off pictures even if you don't ask for them! In the future we plan to expand to livestock as our back property gets very overgrown in the summer.
I actually found BYC while googling solutions for a chick with wry neck. He is now all grown up and the fluffiest silkie we have! After that, we started turning to BYC for all of our flock related questions.
