I am looking to buy some Guinea Fowl for my junkyard and other personal property. I know nothing about Guineas or where to buy them and what I need to buy in terms of a hen or whatever to make it worthwhile. For me, this is uncharted territory and any advice would be much appreciated, I live in the country and I need an alarm system that can be effective according to what I have heard about Guineas when something has intruded on their territory. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link, I am as lost as a leaf in a whirlwind here. I'm from South Carolina and my mind is geared toward mechanical things because of my life as a mechanic. I haven't read much about Guineas and I know I need to get up to speed on that subject.

I have several customers that use flocks of Guineas that they bought from me to "guard" their equipment and junkyard lots... the Guineas do a great job of alerting to any and all trespassers, the human kind or otherwise, lol. One guy even turned an old extended length van into a roomy coop for his birds and did not have to build anything for them. Another guy had a horrible snake and black widow problem in his equipment yard... the Guineas took care of all that for him, plus keep watch over his yard.

Is your junkyard and property a decent size? And is it fenced? If so those are both pluses in keeping the birds happy and content, and safe from ground predators. If you start with keets or juveniles, and raise them in the junkyard in a coop/pen set up for a while before letting them have free run of the place, you will probably have an easier time with acclimating them to their new home (and new job, lol). Keets can go outside into a sheltered coop/covered pen setup at 6 weeks of age (when they no longer need a heat source) and juveniles of any age that are off heat can go into a coop/covered pen set up as soon as you get them... but both will need to spend about 6 weeks confinement time in their coop/covered pen set up to acclimate and imprint on their new home.
