Starting Over

You won't regret using hardware cloth everywhere. I think a lot of people make there way here after losing a flock to predators for the first time, then realize how unsecure 99% of chicken runs/coops actually are. It sounds like you are doing everything right this time around, good luck to you and your new flock!

Oh, I'm definitely going crazy with the hardware cloth. The run itself is made of welded wire, and over that I'm going to put hardware cloth on it. Plus the hardware cloth skirt. I'm going to put hardware cloth under the roof as well if we don't end up using corrugated roofing panels.

We're trying to prepare for everything this time, except for small critters like mice and tiny snakes. I think the only predator around here that could get into it if we do it right is a black bear. But black bears are really rare around here, with an estimated population of less than 300 in the whole state.

Hi-welcome to BYC! I’m so sorry to hear about your chickens. It’s always hard when your beloved animals are taken that way. I don’t have chickens but have ducks and geese. I’m pretty much a newbie-only been a member and recent duck and geese owner for almost a year. I’m still learning! BYC is a great place to learn things and ask questions. The members on here are absolutely awesome. So welcome again😊
