Hello,
As my title states, I am starting to get back into chickens. I had a farm and raised Marans, welsummers, sweetgrass turkeys, welsh harlequins, guineas, runner ducks, tufted Romans and oberhasli dairy goats. I had two cabinet style incubators and hatch hundreds of birds. I loved my animals but when I hit 30, I started wanting real kids of my own. My husband was quite a bit older than I and didn't want children. One morning, I woke up and walked away from it all. It was the most painful decision of my life....

Now, I have two little girls of my own. A 2yro and 5yro. They are much more work than any of my animals but so worth it. It took me many years to think about chickens again but I decided to order a mini Brinsea for Christmas. I think my 5yro will be amazed with the hatching process and would like to get her involved with showing birds. I also would like to eventually hatch out some ducks because I want to teach her pysanky, and duck eggs are the best for this art because of the smooth texture.

Do any Marans breeders know Mick Murphy? He had some of the best eggs and birds I have seen. He was older but a hoot! He didn't like shipping hatching eggs but somehow I talked him into it. I would love to get some of his birds again.

Can't wait to gets some eggs in the bator!

to BYC!

Good to hear you found your own path in life. :-) I can't help you with the egg situation, but great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

I applaud your strength and courage to restart your life. I put everything else aside when I had my son and it was worth it. When he didn't need me as , I restarted my hobbies and other interests. Glad to have your here.
