Well we started to measure out and get our new coop started. We figured the run will be 8x24 and the coop 8x4. Found a great spot but am worried it might be to shady. I guess we will have to cut some branches back to allow for more sun.

So far all the material we are using is recycled and free. i think i want to put corragated plastic as a roof so more light can get in. The coop will be inside the run lifted off the ground. Should be interesting~

I'd think in Florida, the more shade, the better!

At least your girls look like they appreciate what you are doing.
Mine are completely indifferent to any coop improvements that don't involve food.

yes, this is true! But i though i read some where they needed 14 hrs of light??IDK~

We got some posts in the ground and BANG, the goat broke one of the poles in his pen. URGH~ Delay's

Never the less, we have having such a hard timevdecided the darn coop. Build the coop and add the run, build the run and add the coop inside??? Fustrating me a little to be honest!

Shade is good! Florida can be soooo hot, as you well know! I think they mean even indirect light, not full sun light. Looks good though, love your BIG place.

Keep the shade. Fla. is hot, and they don't need really direct sunlight all the time. Also, branches, etc, above will discourage flying predators. I have all my coops and runs under the trees, and the chickens do great. These are all desiduous trees, so in the winter, there is plenty o' sunshine.

These are old pictures. I live in Florida and I have my coops in the shade. I have moved my coops since these pictures were taken to another shady location.
