starting to anger

Oh, that makes more sense. Day 8 is too soon to have a large dark area, unless the light isn't bright enough to see well. Then it could look half dark, and be fine. And how dark are the shells? Any green or blue ones? They can be a bugger to see through.

See now this worries me. I candled my duck eggs at 4 days today. I know a little early but I'm excited and was wondering if I could see anything. I candled them right before I put them in the bator so I would have a point of referance. ONe did have a loose air cell but I'm still giving it a chance. Any how, I saw on all eggs at day 4 (today) that in the yolk is now a darker spot. I was all excited cause I was thinking that was the earliest sign before the veins that you could tell something was going on. Did I get that wrong???? God I hope not, I'm really praying for these babies. This is my first time hatching as I'm really nervous and on edge. Even my husband is taking care to help watch them and is excited and it's not even his project and was slightly opposed at first. Please tell me the little darker spot on the yolks are good signs! OP sorry for hijacking your post!

4 days is early to candle. Wait until about day 10, or at the very least, day 7. Day 4 for is early for chickens, they take 21 days. Ducks take 25, don't they? So it's even more "too early" for ducks.

Be patient. Being excited doesn't make candling too early work any better.

The dark spot you see, once they develop that far, is a good sign. That's not the same as the bullseye you see on the yolk we were talking about. See the sticky on fertile vs. infertile eggs at the top of this section, you'll see what I mean.

LOL Yeah sorry about that my wording gets messed up some times. It like this. I see the two clear ends with the yellow yolk in the middle. In the midlle of the yolk is a spot that is a little darker yellow.

I should also add that the darker yellow is not like the type of yellow you would see an egg cooked. It's not opaiqe (spell check that) it is very translucent just a slightly darker shade of yellow that wasen't there berfore.

I think you're just seeing the thicker part of the yolk. Wait a while. You'll see a black spot, and some red veins, when it's about 7-10 days along. Maybe a little later, with ducks. It's better to leave them alone, meanwhile.

I see you fixed your typos! I do that a lot, on my posts. I have lots of typos. And a sticky keyboard that I really need to get a can of cleaner for.

Yeah I'm the typo queen! I'm verry intellegant and articulate but I can not spell worth a flip. Funny comming from someone who has a wide vocabuary. I know tons of uncommon words but I sure as heck can't spell them!! I get typos from trying to type too fast! LOL

I just hatched seven out of nine that had badly damaged air cells. Dont' give up hope. Hatch them standing up in a turner or egg carton, pointy side down.

Fear turns to anger, anger turns to rage.... eh never mind.

rage turns to hatred or something like that? LOL

I've given up on bator hatching getting ready to throw all the eggs out, ziltch in none of them and it's been over 2 weeks, ole' un-reliabator gets retired for the year

GOOD LUCK
