Starting to hatch - with pics!

Yes, mom is an orpington. I just checked them & we are now up to 5. So far there are 2 Brahma/Buff Orpington Crosses, 2 Brahma/Golden Laced Wyandotte Crosses & 1 Brahma/Barred Rock cross. They all have furry legs! There is a sixth one just starting to come out. Not too bad of a hatch rate so far...she only had 8 eggs under her.

Those are some cute babies. Is that a wire shelf you are using for a ramp? I do the same myself, though my hens are too keen on it.

Whoa, if looks could kill, you would NOT have been able to send in photos. Boy, Mama doesn't have to do anything but glare - I wouldn't come anywhere near her I'd have to send her feed by messenger. The baby's are just precious.

I was unsuccessful in moving her to a dog crate so I put that wire ramp there so if the babies hopped out of the nest they would not fall to the ground. So far so good. I think tomorrow after all of the babies are done hatching I will try to move her again.

i got my black rock as a full grown hen for 6 dollars, couldn't beat that price
