Just went out to check on my hens in this heat 35c in shade today. Found that I have finally 'broken' another broody (yaaaaaaay, she was off the nest) and also found to my horror that a week old chick had somehow managed to get out of its enclosure and mum was going frantic on the inside whilst chick was going frantic on the outside, there were two hens sitting watching it seemingly amused by the goings on, thankfully neither of them had touched it and neither had the circling magpies, but I think the magpies were waiting for me as I hand feed them.

has found out my chickens like coconut. I mixed it in their morning oats, granola, and raisins all warmed up. their poor water was frozen solid this morning

Further to the chick getting out, I found two Bobtails in the hen house an hour later... one big bucket and a soft broom to push them in, I put them on my veranda to chomp at the snails n slugs instead of my baby chicks or eggs.

wow, might try that. I give mine crumble mixed with oatmeal and warm water for a treat in winter
